Job Description

The Cloud Operations DevOps teams are Responsible and Accountable for Sage’s online Product portfolio. The teams ensure our Products and Services are constantly available for our customers to use to run their businesses.

The Cloud Operations Team Lead is responsible for ensuring their products provide our customers with an outstanding customer experience by ensuring they remain available, secure and performant.

Our customers can be based anywhere in the world and the Cloud Operations team may be distributed across Sage’s global locations.

The team lead is responsible for ensuring their Cloud Operations team deliver to agreed roadmaps and works with the Product teams ensuring roadmaps are defined and release management is in place.

This role is required to lead a team of Cloud Operations Specialists and co-ordinate the teams activities, reporting to a Cloud Operations Manager / Director who is fully accountable for the Products.

This is a people lead role but may also be a technical lead. Although the team don’t report directly to you, you will be responsible to Lead and mentor a high performing team operating 24 / 7 / 365.

You will lead your CLOUD OPS team across Product, Cloud and process development. The team lead usually acts as SCRUM Master, managing stakeholder expectations, ensuring accountability for all team members, providing regular feedback on SCRUM team performance, whilst working to improve agility and increase velocity.

You will ensure accountability for all team members, and regularly feedback on team performance, helping drive a high performing team.

This is a 24 / 7 operation that requires the Team Lead to lead and resolve any service incidents that may arise, act as an Incident Manager and drive RCA, service improvements and accountability in these scenarios.

Ability to analyse, assess and make informed technical decisions quickly. They may also run Security Incidents for CLOUD OPS.

You’ll be responsible for critical online services, provide best value to Sage, and optimum service availability ensuring the customer experience is protected and realise the benefits of new technologies.

All our online services operate from the Cloud and this experience is critical. Using cutting-edge technology, the Cloud Operations team lead must ensure their services are designed and deployed to be best in class and future proofed against the changing technical landscape.

The Team Lead will manage and plan workloads and priorities of their Operations Team, working closely with product delivery teams, influencing their approach and design by deploying, administering, monitoring and improving their service.

The team lead role, in collaboration with CLOUD OPS manager, security & architecture experts, set clear guidance and strategy for the specialist teams to build and run infrastructure, mature operational processes, gain efficiencies and quality with infrastructure automation’, improving development & operational capabilities (including : disaster recovery, high system availability, on-demand scalable solutions, infrastructure monitoring, continuous deployment capabilities, etc.

Working closely with Architecture and Engineering teams, the Team Lead promotes the DevOps culture and ensure high delivery standards.

The Team Lead has the ability to deal with Commercials and Senior stakeholders across the business. They provide continuous feedback to project teams to facilitate greater efficiencies and economies.

There may be responsibilities for commercials, budgets and cross charging.

As the Team Lead, you will provide guidance across a range of operations and you place an emphasis upon upskilling of staff and on the job training.

You will help develop existing best practices, such as configuration management and deployment. You will be responsible to generate and share comprehensive and detailed reports about team performance, mission-related objectives and goals.

Responsibility to participate in a Customer Experience taskforce ensuring customers impacted by issues, can be tracked and proactively reassured.

Analysis, tracking & reporting of performance of Services, constantly looking for ways to improve and automate our reports.

Your experience will be shared across Global teams as and when required, whether providing guidance to other teams on new technologies, or participating and running global initiatives such as Knowledgeshares, CAB, Re-engage etc.

Effectively demonstrating that CLOUD OPS is a centre of excellence within Sage. Taking that message beyond CLOUD OPS, Sage to outside industry and the public arena.

Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate in an open-minded, competent and professional manner across the spectrum of Sage organizational leadership and departmental functions.

Key Responsibilities

Full understanding of operational risk and Accountability for delivering an excellent service to our customers.

  • Manage and plan workloads and priorities of their Operations Team, working closely with product delivery teams, influencing their approach and design by deploying, administering, monitoring and improving their service.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations & influence key decision making at a senior executive level.
  • Provide guidance across a range of operations and you place an emphasis upon upskilling of staff and on the job training.
  • Generate and share comprehensive and detailed reports about team performance, mission-related objectives and goals.
  • Analysis, tracking & reporting of performance of Services, constantly looking for ways to improve and automate our reports.
  • Deliver & influence changes to IT Control Matrix for all services globally.
  • Take personal accountability for their products ensuring they migrate to latest technologies, so that they remain current, available, secure and performant ensuring Customers For Life
  • Participate in customer experience task force with customer services, ensure that customers that are impacted by issues can be tracked and proactively reassured.
  • Forward thinking of customer requirements and ensuring they are on roadmaps.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate and collaborate in an open-minded, competent and professional manner across the spectrum of Sage organizational leadership and departmental functions.
  • The promotion of a DevOps culture and adoption of CI / CD principles throughout the organization Lead the Sage business during high pressure incident scenarios, balancing technical resolution and stakeholder communication.
  • Lead security incidents for CLOUD OPS globally

  • Demonstrate world class emotional and technical intelligence, motivating people to promote CLOUD OPS goals and Sage.
  • Work with architecture & security to set technical standards & strategic direction
  • Responsibility for working with budgets, identifying potential cost savings and ensuring these are prioritized. Monitoring of spend across various platforms, identifying gradual increases, ensuring Dev environments remain at optimal spend levels
  • Influence and collaborate with product delivery teams to ensure that designs, standards and quality can be implemented improving the customer experience
  • Research and build knowledge of new & generally available services, new ways to use technologies and changing business processes to prioritize, gain efficiencies and improve customer experience
  • Build service plans to achieve ISO standards and ensure documenting processes is part of the DNA of the team
  • Understand the service from a customer and commercial perspective building relationships with key stakeholders on planned changes, incidents and service improvement plans, ensuring plans are aligned.
