At the Amazon Development Center, Bucharest, part of Amazon Web Services (AWS), we work on global-scale compute platforms, with special focus on serverless & container virtualization technologies, trusted compute, and server fleet tooling for AWS EC2.

As a part of the EC2 Kernel and Operating System organization, we invent, own, and drive the building blocks that are the foundation of the cloud.

We are looking for passionate, customer-focused, self-driven software development engineers to join the teams working on high-

performance virtualization, hypervisors, the Linux kernel, and the platform technologies that power AWS.

As part of the OS and Emulation team you will focus on cutting-edge virtualization technologies and Linux kernel that are the foundation of EC2 with an emphasis on device emulation, QEMU and Xen runtime.

You will own and develop Nitro hypervisor features that will allow customers to run code in a highly secure environment.

You will participate in the full development cycle from design and implementation to deployment and operations. This is an exciting opportunity for you to create new products and services, and to innovate as part of a vibrant and fast-growing company!

In this role, your main goal will be to create customer value. You will :

  • work to understand our customers' needs
  • engineer new features and products to meet their needs;
  • own and automate operations;
  • contribute new ideas and methods to continuously improve quality and development efficiency;
  • work on features that further extend the security and isolation of the Nitro system, the foundation of EC2
  • develop hypervisor features for secure computing
  • BA / BS in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge in the areas of low-level software engineering and / or systems programming
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in the area of low-level software engineering, like C / C++ and Linux
  • Proficient in using the typical Linux toolbox of open source software development and management tools.
  • A solid understanding of Linux OS internals
