The ADCU integrates selected HW and SW that is monitoring a vehicle's motion and guiding its routing states at runtime.
Signal feeds retrieved from onboard surveillance sensors and additional info come together into an Environment Model. Based on this model, trajectory planning algorithms determine the optimal path (safe, convenient) and actions are triggered to the multitude of Actuators (e.g. brake, steering, etc.).
Safety Driving functions are able to detect safety critical situations by different means and support the driver’s inputs by either assisting interventions of e.
g. brakes, engine or steering or even by active control of those actuators.
Cruising Driving functions provide a comfort increase through the automation of the normal driving task (eg Lane Keeping Assist, Automated Cruise Control).
Maneuvering can be a stressful driving task (parking, reverse driving, driving in a narrow garage). But material damage and injuries of pedestrians and cyclists are avoidable consequences.
Maneuvering systems address safety as well as an increasing automation of the parking task.
