In Bucharest, Thales' Digital Identity and Security Business Unit (formerly Gemalto) has a growing team of engineers who support governments, public authorities and private entities worldwide in the fields of civil identity, biometrics and public security by supplying secure identity documents, ID verification services, digital government as well as border control, public security and criminal forensics.

We are looking for an experienced Java Software Engineer (M / F) to design, develop and support turnkey software systems based on Thales' software solutions in the fields of image processing, biometrics, passport / ID manufacturing and personalization, automated fingerprint identification and document issuance.

As part of the team, you will be responsible for the design and development of new functionalities, the customization and modification of existing modules / applications, and bug fixing.

The systems are based on the Java architecture.

A week in the life of a Java Software Engineer :

  • You will develop and enhance biometric enrollment and identification product.
  • You will maintain and support existing biometric enrollment and identification product and troubleshoot current production system issues.
  • You will develop server applications for multiple platforms such as Windows, Linux.
  • You will deploy, configure and fine-tune the solution on test / production environment (local and client site).
  • You will understand and adhere to design and coding procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • You must have a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • To succeed at this job, you must have at least 5 years’ experience in software development with a minimum of 3 years in java development.
  • We are looking for someone who is able to work independently or as part of a larger team.
  • You must be fluent in English (both written and oral communication).
  • You must be available for travel abroad for projects implementations (up to 30%).
  • Technical requirements :

    You must have the following :

  • Experience with Java Enterprise intermediate level
  • Experience with Web Services - intermediate level
  • Experience with Hibernate / JPA, Spring - intermediate level
  • Experience with JDBC, SQL, Oracle - intermediate level
  • Experience with application servers (Tomcat, WebLogic, TomEE)- intermediate level
  • Design patterns, OOP - intermediate level
  • Build system : Maven
  • Source control systems : Mercurial, SVN
  • Bug tracking system : Jira
  • Experience with unit and integration testing (JUnit, Mokito)
  • It would be appreciated if you have the following :

  • C, C++, C# experience
  • Client-server system integration experience, familiar with network programming using TCP / IP, UDP, SOA knowledge
  • Experience working with various operating systems including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Linux or other UNIX variants
  • Experience with CI / CD pipelines would be a plus
  • Experience with code quality tools like Sonar / Sonarqube, JaCoCo, or similar
