Category Manager SEE based in Bucharest

We are looking for a passionate Category Manager for Essity Consumer Goods South East Europe (SEE) with focus on the Consumer Tissue and Intimate Hygiene categories.

Essity is a leader in these categories with the brands Zewa, Libresse, TENA. CatMan project experience is a must, also analytical proficiency!

The position reports to the Customer Marketing Manager South East Europe and is based in Bucharest.

Purpose of the role

The category manager SEE will be responsible for market data and insight with focus on providing accurate and timely information to support the business in making correct strategic and operational decisions.

Based on insights across shopper, customer and channels, she / he is responsible for creating overall category management plans and activities and form category partnership with customer / s to influence category growth.

Geographical scope :

Countries of South East Europe (Romania, Bulgaria and Adriatic countries with focus on Croatia and Serbia).

Main tasks :

Manage Market, Customer, Channel & Shopper Data, including Retail audit data and the related budgets, across SEE.

  • Manage agency contracts, relationship, data provision and budgets
  • Create category reports and scorecards (KPIs)
  • Perform data analysis and provide fact-based recommendations for the commercial teams
  • Create plans and implement category vision and strategy

  • Lead the adaptation of category vision and drivers for all relevant categories to local needs and by key customers
  • Support sales & shopper marketing in developing category account plans
  • Lead Category Management activities to win at the prioritized customers

  • Use Category & Shopper insight to influence internal cross functional customer and brand teams to make the right choices for growth.
  • Build preferred supplier status with strategic customers by acting as the industry experts for category insight and strategy
  • Provide efficient assortment recommendation per category internally and externally
  • Promote shopper decision tree-based shelf recommendation, incl. planogram
  • Implement category management project with customers (e.g. shelf, range, etc.).
  • Delivers range review recommendations to key customers
  • Provide input to category pricing and category promotion strategy & plans
  • Ensure appropriate customer data is purchased and sourced to the delivery of market leading insight.
  • Define merchandising and assortment plan by category and channel

  • Ensure merchandising guidelines are adapted and implemented across all key categories
  • Deliver range prioritization by brand and channel aligned with brand marketing
  • Draw assortment guidelines by brand and by retailer according to strategy
  • Evaluate promotions financial KPIS, ROI and provide recommendations

    Ecommerce track perfect store online KPIS and provide recommendation to contribute to develop the online sales.

    Contribute to best practice sharing in the respective networks and projects


  • University or college degree in Economics / Marketing
  • Min. 5 years’ commercial experience, preferably in Category management, Trade Marketing, Market Research or in other Business analyst function gained in FMCG.
  • Experience in working with or at any FMCG Retailer is an advantage.

  • Fluent in Romanian and English both written and spoken
  • Solid computer skills (MS Office), advanced in Excel ability to work with Power BI
  • Experience in retail audit data management (Nielsen) is a must
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Strong data analysis skills and the ability to summarize effectively
