What You’ll Do

The Cisco Umbrella (formerly OpenDNS) Network Operations Center (NOC) is responsible for Level-1 incident response and the day-to-day operations of the global infrastructure that powers the Cisco Security Cloud.

The scale and complexity of our network generates a constant stream of exciting challenges which are solved by using an evolving set of technologies.

As a NOC Engineer, you will work on a dynamic ecosystem of network routing, switching, transit, peering, VPN tunneling, DDOS mitigation, compute, virtualization and container resources.

Your typical day will vary, but this is what you will be doing :

Work in a regional team of NOC Engineers in a follow-the-sun model.

Monitor the health and performance of the systems / services and quickly and efficiently respond to incidents / alerts as they arise.

Investigate and resolve issues or, depending upon complexity, raise the issue to higher-level network engineers, site reliability engineers and developers.

Support, configuration and maintenance of all networks and infrastructures.

Correspond with our transit providers and peers for incident resolution and help evaluate new peering opportunities.

Develop and document day to day processes and create and improve runbooks from lesson learned before resolving tickets.

Participate in occasional on-call and be flexible to work on some weekends in a rotational model

Whom You’ll Work With

Infrastructure Engineering consists of Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering and Security Engineering - together, we build core Internet infrastructure, security applications and distributed systems at scale.

Our environment processes millions of DNS and Proxy requests per second, across 40 datacenters and global cloud infrastructure providers.

About you

You already have a few years of experience working in a high-transactional, 24x7 production environment and experience configuring Cisco routers and switches.

You also have a good understanding of Layer 2 switching and IP routing protocols including BGP, OSPF and know traffic engineering techniques in BGP.

You know your way around a Linux shell and understand the basic operations of file management, package management, virtual environments and checking system log files.

This role could be a good fit for you if these apply to you :

Previously worked in a fast paced, 24x7 follow-the-sun global operational / support environment.

Experience with router / switching platforms including ASR9k, ASR1k and Nexus families; JunOS experience is helpful.

Good knowledge of BGP and OSPF routing protocols; Experience with traffic engineering techniques in BGP, IPv6, network security and tunneling technologies (IPSec / GRE).

Strong troubleshooting skills related to traffic pattern and network performance issues; DDoS mitigation, packet-loss, latency or throughput problems.

Familiar with NetFlow and SLA probes.

Familiarity with Linux (System logging, file management, package management, etc..))

You have strong verbal and written communication skills, using English.

Experience using network monitoring tools to identify problems.

Experience with ticketing and documentation tools such as Jira, confluence or similar.

Experience with Peering at Internet Exchanges and working with Transit providers is a plus.

Experience writing scripts in Python and using Git repositories is a plus.

Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and handle pressure well in a fast-paced environment.
