We offer a position of Master student for a determined period of 1 year with a part-time working time of 2 hours / day within the research project "Hydrogen production and advanced water treatment using innovative photocatalysts with 3D heterostructures", acronym REVOLUTION3D, at Faculty of Chemistry, "Alexandru loan Cuza" University of Iasi, Romania.

The overall aim of the project is to develop different 3D heterostructures based on oxyhydroxides coupled to a novel double perovskite, determine their optoelectronic properties and charge / energy transfer mechanisms and establish their potential as photocatalysts, particularly for hydrogen production.

The successful candidate will acquire new competences in 3D hybrid nanomaterials synthesis and computational design, in the study of photocatalytic reaction mechanisms, and in several techniques that can be used to assess water treatment and spliting.

The project will involve both lab and field based studies with following main responsibilities :

  • Synthesis and characterization of perovskite materials
  • Synthesis, functionalization and characterization of hybrid 3D core / shell materials
  • Study of the photocatalytic efficiency of the the 3D core / shell materials
  • Numerical simulations of materials
  • Ab-initio calculations in the formalism of the functional density theory - DFT
  • Processing of experimental data obtained in experiments with synchrotron radiation, XPS, XAS and EXAFS, ARPES using Matlab

    Scientific background in synthesis methods for nanomaterials, in using Density Functional Theory (DFT) in correlation with Matlab.
