Waters is seeking an established leader to design, coordinate and manage our Software User Experience function. The UX Director will work with personas ranging from engineers to VP's of a $2B company helping define the overall customer experience.
The Director of User Experience will work across the enterprise to ensure alignment to branding, non-software areas of the user workflow, and seamless integration with Waters.com.
The leader will interface with and influence leaders across many functions in Waters including Software Engineering, Product Owners, Systems Engineering, Customer Experience, Web Development Team, Product Marketing, and will work to help define a ROI model across the functions.
Typical interactions for the leader will be - daily with engineers, product management, functional directors; weekly with project leaders, functional senior directors;
monthly with project review boards, vice president leaders.
The leader will have hands on experience and the ability to build a team to support new product offerings which includes our 'best in class' waters connect software suite.

The leader will have complete accountability for the waters connect user experience within our systems. Additionally, we will continue to evolve the user experience of existing offerings at the software and system level.
The leader will work with their team to have a world-class leading design system in place within the 1st year of hiring.
The design system will be used by our software teams creating systems. The leader will work closely with our web team to ensure that we have one design system for the company.
Experience of design thinking as a foundational design philosophy is key. Having the ability to then mentor and teach that thinking to employers, stakeholders and senior leadership will be essential to the role's success.

UX Roles and Responsibilities
Lead the development of the Waters software UX strategy in partnership with the product development organization and key stakeholders.
Ensure consistency with the broader enterprise UX and branding strategies at the corporate level, resulting in measurable improvements.
Develop and articulate a vision and plan for the UX function which is aligned with our corporate aspirations to be differentiated through user experience and class leading scientific technologies.
Lead and communicate the user experience and software design strategies that align with the Waters overall systems UX vision.
Improve the customer journeys (in the context of high-value workflows for our systems) by driving usability, user interface consistency and process through Waters' systems engineering teams.
Collaborate with the Software and Systems Product Owners, Product Marketing, and Customer Experience teams to understand how UX will differentiate our products.
Work alongside our Customer Experience function to drive workflow consistency through the Waters' systems workflows and maintain a fully accountable and visible reporting mechanism.
Provide innovation and thought leadership such that we create product innovation through the system user experience.
Provide UX thought leadership with a focus on converting strong conceptual thinking to impactful and measurably improved experiences.
Ensure that systems design and interactions are accurately developed in final product for optimal effect and support of corporate goals.

Software UX Function Leadership
Build and lead a world class team of UX professionals who are focused on software but understand what comes before and after.
Drive process and practice changes through the software engineering teams enabling everyone to think customer 1st while empowering delivery teams to move as fast as possible.
Encourage the use of personas and drive that practice throughout the development teams.
Creation and monitoring of key success metrics for the customer facing user experience at the workflow level.
Define software UX standards to enable the delivery teams to work as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Leadership of a Design System project that will have measurable impact on delivery team's productivity.
Understand and solve complex business and functional problems for software users by creating world-class experiences.
To lead from the front, enable our teams but always focus on empowerment where possible.
Bring outside views of UX into the wider development team and evangelize to enable growth.
Creation and maintenance of career development paths for all UX professionals in the team.
Cross Functional Collaboration
Form and maintain deep working relationships with multiple functions including; Software Leadership, Web Team, Customer Experience, Systems Product Management, Systems Architecture, IT.
Support the continued growth of our Customer Experience team which is focused on the end to end experience a customer gets from Waters products.
8+ years of professional experience of leading, managing and developing a UX team in a multidisciplinary environment. Experience working with designers and engineers at the intersection of hardware and software is a strong plus
Ability to explain complex design thinking to executive leadership.
Passion for insisting on high standards (to the point that most other people would think they are being unreasonable).
Must have scientific curiosity and be willing to learn about how our customers use our products.
The ability to talk with customers about highly complex software systems and bring those customer insights back to others working towards customer success (outside of software).
Possess a systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
Expert understanding of designing and detailing intuitive interfaces for cross-platform devices. Experience of integrated hardware and software systems is preferred.
Experience with blueprinting and user journey mapping.
Successfully lead multiple complex projects simultaneously, handle a fast-paced work environment, deadlines, and changing priorities.

Experience of using best practices to interview users and conducting usability testing.
