About this Role

Fandom is the largest Fan platform in the world with over 2.5 billion page views and 300 million users a month! Our Community Platform underlies some of the biggest fan knowledge bases in the world, including communities built around pop culture phenomena like Star Wars , Minecraft , Marvel Comics , and thousands of others.

With that scale we are looking for problem solvers and change agents that use technologies and techniques as tools to drive results fast and efficiently.

Our stack stems from open source and JavaScript oriented technologies but is diverse enough for almost any software engineer.

We pick the right tool for the right job including Typescript, NodeJs, Java, PHP, Python, Docker, k8s, AWS Lambdas, Varnish, We need you to make smart technical decisions to build our platform and improve it.

In the Monetisation area you will be faced with Ad, eSports and Video products that support our Fans by generating revenue required to host our platforms.

Scope of the monetisation is not closed, it might involve for example e-commerce solutions or expanding our eSports segment.

The common denominator of all those products, including Ads and Video, is THE scale. Serving billion impressions daily requires great discipline, tooling and smart techniques.

Here your experience with the backend and frontend nature of web applications design is crucial. Another pattern in our product and technical design is to use terabytes of data from rich event streams generated by our traffic to get the right answers and tune the solution towards user or product metrics.

As a Staff engineer you will not only architect, design and develop software, but you will have a significant impact on the whole Fandom engineering world.

We expect that you will drive both the technical design in your team and our engineering culture in the company. You will get time for both.

You can count on support from managers and fellow engineers including all Staff engineers from different teams.

You Will...

  • Design and develop software products and systems in your team
  • Analyze TB of data to get answers, prove hypotheses or just check how a new feature is performing
  • Lead engineering efforts in your team
  • Guide Engineers, Product Owners and Managers how to get results faster by using better technologies or techniques
  • Participate in architecture and design decisions for the whole Fandom project portfolio
  • Improve our engineering skills by introducing new technologies or techniques
  • Help other teams in achieving their product / project goals either participation in design or implementation
  • You Have...

  • Experience in full stack application development and devops engineering
  • Multi-stack, multi-language, multi-technology proven track record
  • Ability to lead engineering efforts towards product or project goals
  • Passion for software craftsmanship and delivering well structured and readable code
  • Eye on software performance and quality
  • Proven track record in working on hard problems or complex tasks and explaining them in a structured manner
  • Courage for pushing teams and companies towards new technologies and techniques
  • At least 7 years of professional experience
