The R&D IT design environment is a complex landscape of EDA Applications supported by High Performance Compute & Storage environments consolidated into five regional datacenters.
Over 7,000 hardware IC designers spread across 40+ locations around the world use this state-of-the-art design environment.
This R&D environment consists of over 75,000+ cores and 30+ PBytes of data, serving over 2,000 versions of EDA / CAD applications.
We are seeking a candidate for the position of Virtualization subject matter expert for our EMEA region. The ideal person for this position will have 10+ years of experience working in large and complex IT environments.
They will possess a firm grasp on IT services in general and be considered a subject matter expert in the area of virtualization.
The Virtualization SME is responsible for operational & architectural support for the virtualization solution used within our R&D IT design environment for the EMEA region.
He / she will work closely with the other two regional SMEs (in the Americas & Asia) to ensure consistency and good global coordination of infrastructure services.
The Regional Infrastructure Lead reports to the Product Owner of the Infrastructure team for their region.
What will you do as our new R&D Virtualization SME?
As Virtualization SME, you will be held responsible for supporting and using complex and advanced technologies in the R&D IT Solutions domain of NXP Semiconductors.
You work in close cooperation with Product Owners, Application Groups and Engineering teams, including assurance that requirements and its solutions are designed, built and incorporated into the Engineering IT services delivered to our R&D customers.
You will be working in the Infrastructure squad as part of the R&D IT organization. This squad is responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure services (LDAP, storage, Linux operating system, VMware, data protection and backup, server / service monitoring, etc).
The R&D IT organization has adopted the Agile way-of-working and our teams are self-organizing entities using a DevOps methodology for their day-to-day work.
Your responsibilities :
Help to define technology standards and future state for Virtualization / VMware services
Ensure that the architecture meets user, certification, and IT service requirements
Research and drive technological improvements in a cost-effective way that can be shown to have positive impact on the businesses we support
Liaise with product owners, regional infrastructure leads and architects to assure overall fit & integration for the services we manage
Understand IT trends in the broader industry and how those can be applied within NXP
Identify structural changes needed in the architecture and help define migration strategies and relevant roadmaps to implement
Coordinate activities with business and third-party suppliers
Provide insights in identifying new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices, and technology
Ensure regional services are aligned with architectural decisions and remain fit-for-purpose
Identify (potential) issues with virtualization architecture and liaise with stakeholders to initiate solutions
Analyze and assess impact of NXP policy and strategy changes and translate into corrective actions
Ensure virtualization systems are compliant within required security standards
Analyze metrics pertaining to the R&D services within the scope of the infrastructure team and determine when / if changes or corrective actions are necessary
Responsible to ensure that virtualization services meet requirements of reliability, availability, manageability, performance, and security
Install, configure and manage VMware virtualization environment components (vSphere, vRealize, ESX, NSX)
Oversee service maintenance such as upgrades, enhancement, and revisions
Provide operation and sustainment support for the virtualization environment
Provides support in case of major infrastructure incidents
Work with the Infrastructure product owner for your region to collect and act upon user issues with infrastructure services (in collaboration with other regional peers)
Contribute to my squad
Key advisor to regional Infrastructure Product Owner regarding all technical aspects of Virtualization / VMware services
Work with other squad members to deliver work in releasable increments and help drive accountability within the squad as a whole
Refining and explaining backlog items with the team (the How ).
Designing and applying continuous verification techniques and methods to receive feedback about the quality of the product being produced.
Quality is owned by the squad as a whole

What you bring
We are looking for a candidate reflecting the following profile :
Ambitious and outgoing personality who enjoys a fast-paced technology environment
Degree in Computer Science, Information technology, Industrial Engineering or similar
Proven experience as technology expert in a complex, security driven and technologically diversified environment, preferably in the high-tech arena
Strong motivation to apply and promote End-to-End thinking
Proven track of analyzing, structuring and simplifying complex landscapes with multiple technology layers
Working experience in environments where users are savvy in (Information) Technology
10+ years of IT experience designing and implementing IT solutions in a multi-national environment
Strong technical infrastructure knowledge including L2 / L3 networking protocols (switching technologies, routing fundamentals, IP subnetting and Address Management, firewalling and load balancers)
Minimum 5 years of experience managing and configuring VMware, including compute platforms and storage network
Requires detailed knowledge on VMware ESXi, vCenter, vRealize, NSX, vMotion, vSAN
Requires advanced scripting knowledge such as PowerCLI, Ruby, Python, Ansible & Rest API
Business English is a must
VMWARE Certified Professional is a preferred
Experience with cloud platforms, AWS preferred
Experience with IT security is preferred
Knowledge of Windows and Linux-based platforms desirable
