As MySQL is thriving and growing, we're looking for an experienced technical writer to join the MySQL documentation team.
You will be part of a geographically distributed team (America, Europe) responsible for the technical documentation of all MySQL products.
Team members are expected to work independently, requiring discipline and excellent time-management skills as well as the technical facilities and experience to communicate across the Internet.
Candidates should be prepared to work intensively with MySQL engineers, support, and product management. The documentation source format is DocBook XML, so you should have some experience with that or with similar formats.
We're not just writing documentation, but also handling the publication side, and the maintenance of our tool set (XML, XSLT, Perl, PHP, Python).
You should be willing to learn and ideally contribute to our publication infrastructure.
MySQL is an open-source product. For technical writers, this means they're expected to work with the latest internal builds when documenting features, and that implies being able to pull git sources, and run CMake to build the software in Linux VMs and possibly on other platforms.
Your primary assignment will be documenting MySQL Shell, including Shell's High Availability functionality. This is a complex topic that requires familiarity with many other MySQL components.
You should either have that knowledge already, or be willing and capable of gaining it quickly. A MySQL certification is considered an advantage.

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications.
Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery / completion of product documentation and document sets.
As a member of the technical writing division, you will design, create and deliver whole product documentation sets and / or related courseware.
Edit, organize and direct the work activities of other technical writers and staff. Plan the format, arrange the layout of publications and edit work for conformance to publication standards and specifications.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel.
BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
